For over 20 years, New Mexico’s county and tribal health councils have played a key role in the state’s public health system: identifying local health needs, and planning and coordinating solutions to address those needs.

Community health workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who have a close understanding of the community they serve. This trusting relationship enables them to serve as liaisons to the community, to facilitate access to services, and improve the quality of service delivery.
